Cleveland In Love with Geno Smith

As we draw closer to draft day reports say the Browns have made it no secret they like Geno Smith. Last season the strong armed gunslinger passed for 4,250 yards and 42 touchdowns primarily out of the shotgun while leading West Virginia to a 7-6 record. Sound familiar less than a year ago the Browns warmed up to another strong armed shotgun slinging QB who passed to the tune of 4,727 yards and 37 touchdowns leading his team to a 12-1 record. His name? Brandon Weeden.

Hopefully this is just all  a smoke screen Geno Smith is not much of an upgrade over Weeden if any at all. Other than age factor Geno is 22 and Weeden is quickly closing in on retirement at 29 these guys could be twins. Well almost twins.

Honestly I am not in love with anyone in the top 10 of this draft although if Dee Milner drops to the #6 spot he would be a major upgrade over Buster Skrine. Otherwise, the call here is to trade down and pick up another pick possibly a second round selection which Cleveland lost by selecting Josh Gordan in the supplemental draft. Pick up some quality talent and fill some needs TE, CB  etc and if they are hell bent on a quarterback take one later in the draft. Maybe Jordan Lynch. Then next year if the quarterback position is still an issue sell the farm and trade what you have to so you can draft either Braxton Miller or Teddy Bridgewater.

The New Cleveland Browns?

According to ESPN Cleveland last week Jimmy Haslem committed to changing not only the Brown's uniforms in 2015 but also every facet of the team's marketing brand.

I was born and raised a Buckeyes and Brown's fan so growing up I received large spoon fulls of tradition. I can hear my Father screaming "If they as so much change anything I'm done!" And while I understand the importance of tradition and being proud of the teams history, I'm in complete agreement on this one. Sorry Dad.

Tradition has got us no where. In the last 20 years tradition has got us one playoff win. It sure did not stop and talk Art out of moving the team in the middle of the night. It never intervened when the organization drafted ten first round busts nor has it ever lured the big time free agents.

I am proud of The Browns history but  I want to be proud of The Browns now! And if changing the logo, adopting new colors and modern uniforms, even putting a dome over the stadium leads to a winning atmosphere then the sooner the better.
